The Festival of Walks 2010

After the success of the initial Festival of the Walks in 2009 the event will run again in 2010. It will be an 8- day festival of guided walks, community & cultural events that celebrate the natural beauty of the Hinterland, healthy activity & showcase local attractions. The festival will run from August 21 to 29.
Hinterland Tourism Sunshine Coast is again the driving force behind the festival & hopes to build an even bigger program for this year involving the whole range. There will be over 20 guided walks this year including the children's story walk, garden walks, nature walks, artist's walks & a large fundraising walk connecting communities & villages.

The absolute beauty and charm of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland offers visitors the opportunity to experience a magnificent selection of rainforest & mountain walks, ranging from easy to strenuous, from 20 minute strolls to walks of several days.

The Sunshine Coast Concert Band conducted by their Music Director Ken Chadwick will present a popular program of ‘Classical Cupcakes’ at their next charity concert.
The concert will feature a delightful programme of musical morsels that everyone will know and love, all arranged for symphonic wind ensemble. The program includes such highlights as The William Tell Overture, Nessun Dorma, the Trumpet Voluntary, the theme from Chariots of Fire and the Ride of the Valkyries, The concert will finish with a bang with Tchaikovsky’s superb 1812 Overture! 
With some light selections from Phantom of the Opera and The Three Tenors, this will be an afternoon of favourites designed to delight every lover of good music. Soloists Bev Gourlay and Aart Schouten will sing The Impossible Dream, Over the Rainbow, and also the very popular When the Sgt Major's on Parade.
The concert is presented by the Order of St John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller Sunshine Coast Commandery in association with 104.9 Sunshine FM, and all profits will benefit the Hear and Say Centre.

The Legendary Wickety Wak became an absolute household name from their early days on the Jackie McDonald Breakfast show to their own Television series with Channel7 in the 80's & early 90's.
They became the highest paid show band in Australia's history making top ten in 1990 in the Business Review Weekly for that particular year. And yet more was to come with the reformation in 2006 where their success escalated once again to a sellout 31 shows in 28 days, with the highlight being a standing ovation from 50,000 people at the Gympie Music Muster.
The style was masterminded by Greg Doolan who has since been named Australian Variety Performer of the Year in mid 2000’s for his own solo shows, proving once again that this combination of classy vocals & impersonations mixed with his unique comedy style invites every audience to have a necessary mind break from the harder aspects of life.
In light of a large contingent of Wak fans wanting more, Greg Doolan brings together 3 original Wakkers including the brilliant Rob Rosenlund & Tony Jeffrey to bring to the stage the full story & behind the scenes moments of the great Wickety Wak.
The boys, along with on absolute hand selected group of musicians and Greg's wife Laura, take a comedy look at how the band formed. From Tony's history of performing at the Eurovision song contest to Greg replacing Rick Springfield in another Wickety Wak from another era to Rob and Greg belng pulled over by the police in Western Australia for singing too loud.
The show also includes some of the more hysterical send-ups like the irreverend monk in the 3 bells song - all the chappell bells were ringing - Rob's Kermit the frog to Tony’s Julio Iglesias.

The film is a passion & an endless source of private jokes & jigsaw puzzle pieces that make up the intricate collage that is Hoodoo Gurus.
It’s one of our favourite movies. When Rick auditioned for the band way back when, we played together a bit in the rehearsal room. Well, that was fine, we knew he could play, but more importantly we wanted to know ’What’s your favourite movie?‘ That was a very important thing to us. It’s one thing to play music together but you have to share some of the same sensibilities, frontman Dave Faulkner explains. "Rick also liking Dr. Strangelove ticked all the right boxes."
Faulkner and his bandmates, guitarist Brad Shepherd, bassist Rick Grossman & drummer Mark Kingsmill, have been going strong, again, since reuniting in late-2003 after almost six years apart.
