James Morrison & The Idea Of North (TION)
‘Feels Like Spring’ 2010 Tour

Nambour Civic Centre - Main Hall, Nambour
8pm
Two of this country’s most dynamic artists collude to blow the winter blues away with a national tour based on their new collaborative album through ABC/Universal, Feels Like Spring.

James Morrison is far and away the most virtuosic and unrelentingly entertaining performer in Australian jazz and contemporary music. The Idea of North has been mesmerising audiences for over 15 years with their dextrous and distinctive style which is both astonishingly precise and impossibly beautiful.
Long time friends and colleagues, it was Morrison who first made the loudest noise when TION refreshingly burst upon the scene. In return the vocal group, like most of us, has long recognised Morrison’s extreme talents and the opportunity to record and tour an album together went hand in glove.
Feels like Spring features sparkling originals and new arrangements of standards. Morrison is blastingly good on every instrument, including the double bass – the first time he has recorded as a bassist. TION’s astoundingly acute harmonies flow like molasses and the end result is a brave, bright and gorgeous production both fans and first-timers will enjoy.

Band of Brothers
The Events Centre Caloundra
7.30pm
Guitar virtuosi, Slava and Leonard Grigoryan return again to The Noosa Longweekend after wild acclaim at last year’s festival. The duo is joined by the extraordinarily talented Joseph and James Tawadros for an adventurous musical partnership that crosses musical boundaries. The exotic sounds of the oud and req’ add an intriguing dimension to this eclectic program. Each a distinguished artist in his own right, this collaboration showcases an inspiring synergy of Australian talent.

The Brothers’ repertoire embodies a mixture of their original duo pieces, a special arrangement of Blackbird by the Beatles and some group pieces composed by Joseph Tawadros - Lucca, Ten Ten, Freo and Sahara. All works are interspersed with thrilling forays into spontaneous, brilliant improvisation.

In 2007, Band of Brothers performed at the Queensland Music Festival, and in 2008 were invited to perform at the Sydney Opera House and as part of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival. The same year, the group toured the east coast of Australia. In 2009, Band of Brothers performed at Arts in the Valley, Kangaroo Valley. This year, The Noosa Longweekend Festival is proud to present Band of Brothers as one of its keyline acts in Caloundra and Noosa.

Agatha Christie Radio Mysteries
The Events Centre Caloundra
1pm & 5pm
Let your imagination run wild as a group of top Melbourne Theatre Company and Australian screen actors recreate the pre-television days using recently rediscovered radio scripts by Agatha Christie.
Agatha Christie was an English crime fiction writer. She also wrote romances under the name Mary Westmacott, but is chiefly remembered for her 78 detective novels. Her work with these novels, particularly featuring detectives Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple, have given her the title the ‘Queen of Crime’ and made her one of the most important and innovative writers in the development of the genre.
The Lux Radio Theatre actors play a wide range of roles, perform the soap commercials and do the live sound effects as actors did during live audience broadcasts generations ago.
The show features Beverley Dunn, a veteran of radio, who has also been appearing with the Melbourne Theatre Company since its inception. Also in the cast is Simon Russell, a regular on the “Thank God you’re Here” television series, Knockabout Theatre Company founder Rosalind Mackay and two TDK/ National Library Audio Book Award winners James Wright and Jenny Seedsman.
Director Don Mackay recently staged national tours of The Carer with the late Bud Tingwell and The Book Club with Amanda Muggleton. He produced television and ABC radio drama and was Executive Director of the Victorian Arts Council (now RAV).
“Audiences really enjoy being in on the joke” director Don Mackay says “the actors run on gravel, blow train whistles and suggest all kinds of unlikely locations while acting vigorously in front of a microphone. Dame Agatha still has a big following and these radio plays are every bit as intriguing as her recently revived Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot stories on television.”
Tickets - from $30 per person

WEEK 4

Thu 24 Jun
Part of NoosaLongWeekend
Caroline Nin
Hymne a Piaf
The Events Centre Caloundra
7.30pm
Fans of Edith Piαf know there is more to ‘the little sparrow’ than “Non, je ne regrette rien!.”
Parisian cabaret performer Caroline Nin brings to Australia and The Noosa Longweekend Festival this frank and tender tribute to France’s most famous chanteuse.
Since its inception, the show has been presented as far afield as the Royal Festival Hall and the King’s Head Theatre in London.
After sellout seasons at the Sydney Opera House and Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Nin comes to the Sunshine Coast to draw audiences into Piαf’s uplifting and tragic world.
Nin’s spine-tingling and moving revelation makes full use of her eloquent, attentive diction and spirited singing to breathe new life into familiar anthems. This Piαf tribute by this finely-chiselled performer is not an impersonation, but homage by a fellow Parisian chanteuse.
She has been hailed internationally for her renditions of famous anthems such as La vie en Rose, Hymne ΰ l’amour and Padam, all served up in her signature, smoky, jazz-inflected tone.
Caroline Nin will be accompanied by Tom O’Halloran on piano and Jonathan Zwartz on contrabass.
Tickets - $55 per person

Menopause - The Musical

Nambour Civic Centre - Main Hall, Nambour
Brought to you from the original US creative team, Australia welcomes the international sensation and #1 Girls’ Night Out, Menopause The Musical®!
Inspired by a hot flush and a bottle of wine, Jeanie Linders created Menopause The Musical® as a celebration of women who are on the brink of, in the middle, or have survived ‘The Change’.
Set in a department store, four women (Soap Star, Dubbo Housewife, Power Woman and Earth Mother) with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale. They quickly bond and make fun of their woeful hot flushes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. A sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realise that menopause is no longer the silent passage!
Maybe the attraction to the show is the songs that everyone grew up with – The Great Pretender, Only You, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Heat Wave, I Will Survive and more – all sung with gusto and all with their new lyrics. Or maybe it is the realisation that there is a wonderful life waiting after ‘The Change.’
Menopause The Musical® has travelled for 71 weeks during 2008 – 2009 breaking box office records and will continue in 2010 for an additional 40+ week tour to capital city, metropolitan and regional theatre venues throughout all states and territories of Australia. Many of the audience members have come back time and time again to join in this 90 minute, one act laugh-a-thon but they’ve never seen it like this before! Now with new songs, more choreography and a refreshed look at ‘The Change’.

Eumundi Food Fest 2010
+ Noosa Beach Classic Car Club Show & Shine
Lovers of good food and fabulous fresh produce, eager cooks & budding chefs are in for treat with the upcoming 2010 Eumundi Food Fest, taking place from 10am – 3pm on Sunday 27 June.
Part of the Noosalongweekend 10 day cultural event, the Eumundi Food Fest (now in its 8th year) brings together local producers, growers, chefs, restaurateurs, entertainers & food lovers with a host of activities & entertainment throughout the day.
Eumundi Food Fest Coordinator Trent Harvison says Eumundi’s village atmosphere is the ideal setting for an event that has become a “must do” for local foodies.
“The Tucker Tent will be the place to enjoy all sorts of foodie fun – with cooking presentations & demonstrations throughout the day taking place in a state-of-the-art stainless steel kitchen,” Trent says.
“Demonstrations by local restaurants & providores will take visitors on a journey through the wonderful produce available on the Sunshine Coast,” he says.
“It’s a great chance for most of us novice cooks to learn from the experts, pick up some great new tricks & recipes, & then head home armed with produce to get cooking!”

An additional demonstration stage will focus on alternative & sustainable produce and cooking practices. This area will also have an emphasis on education & instruction.
When it comes to cuisine to devour on the day, visitors will be able to explore the delights of over 70 stalls, featuring tasty morsels from the Sunshine Coast & hinterland’s premier producers & growers.

This year also see the introduction of tasting plates, where stalls will offer a sample of their tasty treats for $5,” says Trent. The smaller portion options will make it easier for visitors to graze their way around.
“It’s an ideal setting to design your own gourmet picnic from the stalls around, then sit back, relax & listen to local musicians while sipping a quality Sunshine Coast wine”

The Noosa Beach Classic Car Club will also be hosting their ‘Show and Shine’ display – an impressive gathering of sparkling classic motor vehicles. Situated right in the middle of the Food Fest, the display will provide scores of delicious cars to drool over.  There will also be a number of rides & amusements.
A truly great day out in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, the Eumundi Food Fest is an event not to be missed. The Eumundi Food Fest is an initiative of the Eumundi Chamber of Commerce.
